Today the world has lost one of the most soulful bitches to ever grace this earth. Etta James died earlier today at 73-years-old from leukemia complications. She was one of the few R&B singers that could make you cry like a fucking baby with a single ballad and one of those rare people with a voice that sinks your heart into the pit of your stomach. Rest in peace, Etta; you will forever be one of my most favorite bitches.

Sorry to have dropped off of the face of the earth. Expect bitches in the near future. That is all.

“Mother” Mary Harris Jones

Mary Harris “Mother” Jones was such a radical bitch that, in an era when print news & magazines are dropping like flies, the magazine named after her still goes strong. “Mother Jones” magazine is an liberal American magazine that features investigative and breaking news in politics, the environment, human rights, and other issues that many people in power don’t want to hear everyone else bitch about.

“Mother” Jones was one tough, surviving, rabble-rousing bitch. An Irish immigrant who started in America as a dressmaker, she didn’t just give up when he whole fucking family died (4 kids and her husband!) AND her dressmaker workshop burned down when she was only 34. Instead, she started traveling all over the country, coordinating labor strikes, helping organize labor unions, working with child workers, miners, mill workers, and their families to say, “Enough is enough, bitches!”

In fact, she was such a tough, vibrant, effective bitch that when she organized the Children’s March from Philadelphia, all through Pennsylvania to the home of the President, Teddy Roosevelt, in New York, TR called her the “Most Dangerous Woman in America” at the AGE OF 83!!

Mother Jones worked with the Knights of Labor, the United Mine Workers’ Union; she co-founded the Industrial Workers of the (Fucking!) World; she organized, harangued, scolded, cheered on, marched with, and spoke for miners, their wives, child laborers, silk mill workers. She was an excellent, dramatic speaker, often dressing the part, telling stories, using humor, profanity, props, whatever it took to get the bitches moving!

Imagine if this bitch were around for “Occupy Wall Street”!Mother Jones with marchers

Emma Goldman

Emma Goldman was one revolutionary bitch. 1869-1940, Goldman emigrated from Russia to the U.S. in 1885 where she quickly became part of a growing anarchist movement in New York. Goldman became well known for her writing and provocative points of view. After being arrested and serving two years jail time she was sent back to Russia, while there she voiced her opinions against the violence used during the Bolshevik revolution. After living in multiple European countries Emma traveled to Spain to support the Spanish revolution taking place. Goldman died in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 70. She left a legacy of multiple speeches and five published books. This is one fucking revolutionary bitch and unstoppable feminist.

Dolores Ibárruri “La Pasionaria” (Passion Flower)

Isidora Dolores Ibárruri Gómez (9 December 1895 – 12 November 1989), known more famously as “La Pasionaria” (passion flower) was a Spanish Republican leader of the Spanish Civil War and communist politician of Basque origin. She is perhaps best known for her defense of the Second Spanish Republic with the famous slogan ¡No Pasarán! (“They Shall Not Pass”), during the Battle of Madrid, and “Es mejor morir de pie que vivir arrodillado” (It’s better to die standing up than to live on your knees, originally by Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata). Alongside her political struggle, she also fought for women’s rights, to prove that “women, no matter their condition, are free beings to choose their destiny”.

Born in a miner’s family in Northern Spain, Ibárruri had to give up her studies because her family couldn’t support her. After her marriage, she became interested in Marxist ideology and the working classes’ liberation. She joined the Spanish Communist Party and short after ran to be elected as a member of the Spanish parliament, despite suffering several arrests. Although she lost the elections, this didn’t deter her and she moved to Madrid to work for a communist newspaper. In 1933 she became the president of the Union of Antifascist Women. During this time she gave birth to six children.

Eventually she was elected as a member of the Spanish parliament and in 1936, the same year the Spanish Civil War began, she became the vice-president of the parliament. She spent the war touring the country giving speeches in favour of the Spanish Republican government and against the fascist rebels. She is usually regarded as being one of the greatest public speakers of the twentieth century. After the Spanish Civil War, she fled the country and exiled in the Soviet Union, where she became part of the grassroots movement of Spanish exiles. She was the highest authority among the members of the Communist party exiled in Russia. She was also in the board of the International Communist Organisation.

Upon Francisco Franco’s death on 1977, she returned to Spain and was elected, again, as a member of parliament on the first elections in more than forty years. She died on 1989, still politically active.
